Welcome aspiring models!
You are probably at this page because you’ve registered for our model audition and would like to know how to prepare yourself for what’s to come.
What can you prepare beforehand to increase your chances of being selected? What do we look out for in a new model? What do you need to bring along with you?
Read on as we answer these questions.
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.
– Benjamin Franklin
The brutal truth is, not everyone can be a model. That in itself is where the allure lies. The first step in becoming a model is getting into a modelling agency. Of course there’s also freelance modelling, but that’s another topic altogether.
We see hundreds of aspiring models every casting call and sign less than 10 percent of that. Most of the time, it is because the applicant is not ready. Make sure you are in good shape and do your homework (like reading this guide) before coming for the audition.
We want to equip you with the skills and knowledge before the casting call so you don’t waste your time and our time. Real model development takes time and effort. We want to do it for people who are willing to put in the hard work.
Things To Bring
Bring along your modelling portfolio if you have one. It is going to be a long day, so please also bring along your water bottle, a smile, and a good attitude.
Good attitude means that you smile and be courteous. There is absolutely no reason to be rude to anyone. On top of looking for models with the right physical attributes, we are also looking for models who possess the BASIC vibe. If you can be rude during the audition, you will definitely offend our clients when going on jobs. This is a risk we cannot take.

What Will I Be Doing?
The casting call is split into 2 stages. In the 1st stage, we will be taking your height and measurements. You are not allowed to proceed for the 2nd stage of the casting call if you do not meet the requirements.
In the 2nd stage, you are required to do a catwalk and do some poses for the camera.
Catwalk
We are not expecting you to walk like Victoria’s Secret models. In fact, you are not allowed to walk like that in most fashion shows. We want to see if you are comfortable walking in heels and whether you have the flair to walk like a model.
Make sure you have a pair of heels that’s good for walking. Get something like this.
Study the video of Xiao Juan’s catwalk below. The video is an example of a good catwalk. Study her pace, the position of her hands, the way she poses, and her turns. What we want to see at the casting call is a catwalk like this, strong and confident.

Posing
Other than the catwalk, a model needs to know how to pose. In fact, the majority of modelling jobs is about posing. Especially with the shift in purchasing patterns. More people are shopping online and there is a huge increase in demand for catalogue models.
A good fashion model will have many poses up his or her sleeves. This ensures that no time is being wasted thinking of poses during photo shoots.
Practise your poses by studying fashion magazines. Many aspiring models make the mistake of just browsing instead of studying. Study the model’s expression, what emotion does it convey? What is the model doing with his or her hands? Many new models often have awkward hands positions. A picture is 2 dimensional, create shapes with your body and point your joints outwards. Practise in front of a mirror and convert your best poses into muscle memory.
Understand the differences between fashion and catalogue poses. You will be tested on your poses during the casting call.
